As we move into the beginning of March here in Plymouth, there’s a definite feeling of change in the air. The days are slowly getting lighter, the daffodils are beginning to appear along hedgerows and gardens, and many people start thinking about becoming more active again after the long winter months.

While spring brings renewed energy, it also tends to bring an increase in aches and pains — and this is something I often see in clinic at this time of year.

Why Do We Feel More Aches in Early Spring?

Over winter, many of us naturally become less active. Colder weather encourages more sitting, less walking, and fewer outdoor activities. As spring arrives, people begin:

  • Gardening again

  • Walking more frequently

  • Spring cleaning

  • Returning to hobbies or exercise

Although these are positive changes, the body sometimes isn’t ready straight away. Muscles, joints, and posture patterns that have adapted to winter routines can become strained when activity suddenly increases.

Common problems I see in early spring include:

  • Lower back discomfort

  • Neck and shoulder tension

  • Hip stiffness

  • Headaches linked to posture

  • Foot and walking-related pain

The McTimoney Approach

McTimoney chiropractic care focuses on gentle, precise adjustments designed to improve alignment and support the body’s natural ability to move comfortably.

Many patients choose this approach because it is:

  • Gentle and suitable for a wide range of ages

  • Whole-body focused rather than symptom-only treatment

  • Designed to improve balance and mobility

  • Individualised to each person

As a sole practitioner working from my home clinic in Plymouth, I’m able to provide a calm, personal environment where treatment is tailored specifically to you.

Spring Is a Good Time to Reset Your Body

Just as we spring-clean our homes, March can be a good opportunity to check in with your body.

Small changes can make a big difference:

  • Gradually increase activity rather than doing everything at once

  • Stretch gently before gardening or long walks

  • Take regular breaks from sitting

  • Listen to early warning signs of discomfort

Addressing minor issues early often prevents them becoming longer-term problems.

A Local, Personal Approach

Running a small, independent clinic means appointments are unhurried and focused entirely on your individual needs. Whether you are managing ongoing discomfort or simply want to move more freely as we head into spring, chiropractic care can help support you in staying active and comfortable.

🌼 If you’re noticing stiffness or aches as activity levels increase this March, it may be a good time to have your alignment checked.

I look forward to welcoming both new and existing patients as we move into the brighter months ahead.
