As the summer heat ramps up and a heatwave rolls in, we’re all feeling the temperature rise — and that can have more of an impact on your body than you might think. At Back To Normal Chiropractic Clinic I'm here to help you stay healthy, hydrated, and aligned through the hottest days of the year.
How Heat Affects Your Body (and Your Spine!)
Extreme heat can lead to muscle fatigue, dehydration, and increased inflammation — especially if you're already dealing with back or joint pain. When your body is overheated, it can cause muscles to tighten and increase your sensitivity to pain.
Our Top Tips for Staying Comfortable in the Heat:
Hydrate More Than You Think You Need To: Water supports spinal discs and helps flush out toxins that cause inflammation.
Stretch Gently & Often: Heat can make muscles feel loose at first, but dehydration may lead to cramping. Gentle movement keeps things in balance.
Cool Compress for Inflammation: If you're dealing with localized pain or swelling, a cool pack (not ice directly!) can help soothe sore areas.
Avoid Long Periods of Sun Exposure: Especially if you're doing yard work or sports — your posture tends to suffer when you’re overheated and tired.
Bonus: Heat & Headaches
Many patients report more headaches during heatwaves. This can be caused by dehydration, tension, or poor posture as we try to “curl up” and avoid the sun. Chiropractic adjustments and proper hydration can offer fast relief.
This Week at Back To Normal Chiropractic Clinic I offer extra hydration tips and posture checks during appointments. If the heat is making your usual aches worse, come in for a mid-week adjustment. You’ll walk out feeling cooler — literally and figuratively!
Stay cool, stay aligned, and we’ll see you soon.
